Will this cause problems?

My convicts cichlids are young they don't even have there colors yet. Ok so my male convict keeps chasing my female. He wont even let her eat. So i put a tank divider in. I plan to take it out when they get to breeding age. When i take it out will they pair up or will they stay separate and not breed because i had that tank divider in there.
