How can I gain the trust of a dog?

Try walking near her in a round about way, not talking to her, don't try to touch her or have eye contact with her. Don't come straight at her, but approach from the side. Sit down near her, with your side towards her,(it's less threatening) with a piece of lunch meat or chicken in your hand. Let her smell the meat & come to you. Dogs are nose first, then ears, then eyes as far as their senses are concerned. It may take some time. Ever watch The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic channel?
